On March 31, 2023, at the World Congress of Nephrology (WCN) and the 21st Asian Pacific Congress of Nephrology (APCN) held in Bangkok, Thailand, the Asia Pacific Society of Nephrology (APSN) presented the Excellence in Basic Science Award to Prof. Li Ming from the Department of Nephrology of our hospital in recognition of her outstanding contributions in the field of basic science in nephrology.
The APSN aims to promote and encourage the development of scientific knowledge and research in various fields of kidney diseases, and to promote its exchanges and dissemination in the Asian Pacific region. The Excellence in Basic Science Award is presented biennially at the APCN starting from 2022 to recognize outstanding nephrologists in the Asian Pacific region who have made significant contributions to basic science in nephrology. Prof. Li Ming is the first nephrologist in the Asian Pacific region to receive this award.

Prof. Li Ming focuses on genetic research in immune nephropathy, and her work in the field of nephrology has been recognized by domestic and overseas peers. She has received the titles of “Young Researcher Award” of the Chinese Society of Nephrology, Chinese Medical Association, and “Outstanding Young Medical Talent of Guangdong Province”, and her academic achievements have won a second prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, a second prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, and a first prize of the Guangdong Natural Science Award. Prof. Li Ming has participated in multiple national, provincial, and ministerial level scientific research projects, including four projects under the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Her serial research findings have been published in international high-impact journals, including Nat Genet, Nat Commun, and Sci Transl Med. She has made special speeches on genetic research in IgA nephropathy at international academic conferences, and has significant influence in promoting the progress of genetic research in IgA nephropathy.
