On June 18-21, 2020, the 2020 International Breast Cancer Summit Forum and the 5th China-America Summit Forum on Breast Cancer (Online Conference) held a grand opening ceremony. The China-America Summit Forum was organized by the Breast Oncology Department of our hospital, and Director Ning Liao served as the executive chairman of the conference. Many experts and scholars in the breast cancer diagnosis and treatment field from China and the United States gathered together to conduct in-depth exchanges and discussions on the latest research progress and the cutting-edge hot issues about breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. The conference was greatly supported by counterparts in the field of breast cancer from the two countries, dedicated to promoting the vigorous development of the breast cancer diagnosis and treatment in China through global clinical research cooperation and medical resource integration. This international-level academic feast attracted more than 320,000 tumor professionals to watch online, with wonderful contents and strong academic atmosphere, successfully promoting the exchanges and cooperation in the field of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

President Xueqing Yu and Professor Yilong Wu of our hospital delivered their opening speeches successively. President Yu said that “due to the epidemic, the International Breast Cancer Summit Forum is held in the form of combination of online and offline. I would like to thank the organizing committee led by Professor Ning Liao and all experts and colleagues for their support and participation in this conference, and extend my sincere congratulation on the success of the conference”. In his speech, Professor Wu specifically said that “although the epidemic makes Chinese and foreign experts to gather in the "cloud" this year, online exchanges can also promote the Chinese friendships with other countries, and the academic link connects us forever. I hope that Chinese and foreign experts can gather in Guangzhou next year to further strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation.”

The summit gathered lots of big shots and celebrities and invited 21 top breast tumor experts in the world, forming a strong group of speakers, including Professor Clifford Hudis, CEO of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO); Professor William Gradishar, Chairman of the Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology-Breast Cancer, National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN); Professor Daniel Hayes, Executive President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO); Professor Armando Giuliano, Surgery Pioneer; and Professor Charles Balch, Chairman of the International Sentinel Lymph Node Conference. The Chinese experts included Academician Erwei Song, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University; Guì Wu, Deputy Director of the Affiliated Cancer Hospital, Fudan University; Professor Zefei Jiang, Director of the Breast Oncology Department of the Fifth Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) and other top domestic experts. The foreign and Chinese expert made in-depth discussions via the Internet on the hottest topics about breast nowadays, including individualized treatment of mammary cancer in the new era, precise treatment of HER2 positive breast cancer, ER+/HER2-breast cancer management model, as well as the key points, pain points and difficulties in the neoadjuvant treatment process of breast cancer, providing a sumptuous academic feast for the participants.

All the meeting agendas were successfully completed and the experts both at home and abroad truly shared their experiences. We believe that with the joint efforts of experts at home and abroad, the global breast cancer diagnosis and treatment will surely achieve further development!
