In the afternoon of September 22, 2021, Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital held an online signing ceremony with Professor Abdelouahab Bellou, Tenured Professor of University of Rennes, Former Associate Professor of Harvard University and Former Chairman of the European Society of Emergency Medicine (EUSEM). Director Xueqing Yu, Deputy Directors Xin Li and Yong Li and the heads of the relevant administrative offices and departments of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital attended the signing ceremony. Professor Bellou will come to China in November to work full time at Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital.
Director Xueqing Yu expressed his heartfelt welcome and thanks to Professor Bellou for choosing Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital. In his speech, he said that the joining of Professor Bellou is an important symbol of the talent introduction of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, which will promote the construction of the trauma emergency treatment center and first-aid emergency system in Guangdong, and benefit trauma patients in Guangdong and even the whole country. Professor Bellou can bring new breakthroughs in the field of emergency medicine of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, especially in the in-depth cooperation in major emergency medical projects, medical education and training platform, international multi-center cooperative research and other fields by combining his global vision and international experience with the localized Chinese experience.
In the future, Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital will see a better and faster development in the construction of clinical medicine research center, emergency and critical diseases discipline, and emergency medicine system, emergency medicine teaching staff and personnel training, scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation, so as to provide better talent guarantee and intellectual support for the medical and health care development in Guangdong.
At the signing ceremony, Professor Bellou said that he was very optimistic about the future development of China and has been hearing about the reputation of the emergency and critical care medicine of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital in China and even in the world. He felt very happy and honored that he could have the opportunity to join, devote himself to clinical medicine and scientific research, and cooperate and communicate with excellent doctors in China. He hoped that he would be able to work together with Chinese colleagues to bring better treatment choices for Chinese patients, create a whole new emergency medicine brand with international standards and international vision, and make every effort to promote the development and progress of the emergency medicine in Guangdong Province, and even the whole country.
Subsequently, Xueqing Yu, Director of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital and Professor Abdelouahab Bellou signed a full-time talent introduction agreement through video conference and online fax.
Abdelouahab Bellou is the world's top emergency and critical medicine expert and a tenured professor of University of Rennes. He ever acted as associate professor in emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Director of the Quality and Safety of the International Emergency Medicine Fellowship of Harvard Medical School in Boston, chairman of European Society of Emergency Medicine (EUSEM) and chairman of the Global Emergency Medicine Network.
Professor Bellou has been committed to the construction and development of emergency medicine for many years, training more than 60 students, and giving academic speeches for more than 220 times around the world. He have made great efforts in emergency medicine quality and safety, cardiovascular critical emergency and life support, pediatric emergency medicine and disaster medicine, and is a leader in the development of international emergency medicine. After entry, he will focus on all-around upgrading of the clinical, education and research work in emergency medicine:
(1) providing international quality and safety platform construction projects for emergency medicine to continuously improve the quality of the medical process of the Emergency Department based on his previous experience in the top international emergency medicine platforms such as Harvard University;The Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital is one of the most influential emergency and critical care treatment centers in South China, with annual emergency patients of 180,000, rescue patients of 14,000 and annual critical patients of more than 3,000. The entry of Professor Bellou will greatly enhance the strength of the emergency and critical care medicine of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital and actively promote the application of the National Clinical Medicine Research Center (emergency and critical care medicine).
The introduction of Professor Bellou is an important achievement of the high-level hospital construction and talent introduction strategy of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital. The high-level talent introduction is one of the key focuses of the high-level hospital construction of our hospital. According to the different levels of the talents, our hospital will give different levels of support such as “five fives” and “five threes” to the talents. The highest “five fives” support can be RMB 5 million scientific research funds each year for 5 consecutive years, 500 square-meter lab, 5 full-time scientific researchers and 5 postdoctors.
As the first full-time foreign expert enjoying our hospital’s “five fives” support, Professor Bellou will officially join our hospital in November this year as the academic leader of emergency medicine and the director of the Institute of Emergency Medicine.
