On February 6, 2022, the team led by Director Chen Jiyan and Director Tan Ning from the Department of Cardiology of GDPH published “Non-HDL cholesterol paradox and effect of underlying malnutrition in patients with coronary artery disease: A 41,182 cohort study” in the Clinical Nutrition (IF=7.324, CAS, Q1). Both the first author and the corresponding author of the paper were from GDPH.
Director Liu Yong (corresponding author) and Doctor Wang Bo (the first author) introduced that the study used data which was from the Cardiorenal ImprovemeNt (CIN) cohort carried out in Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, with 41,182 coronary artery disease (CAD) patients diagnosed based on coronary angiography (CAG) examination results included, for the purpose of assessing the relation between the baseline non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) level at the time of admission and the long-term prognosis. The study found for the first time that malnutrition mainly mediates to the non-HDL-C paradox
This paper is the first of the team’s CIN study of CAD patients published in a top nutrition journal since the topic was launched. The co-corresponding authors Chen Shiqun and Liu Jin believe that based on the findings of this study, for the CAD patients with low blood lipid level at the time of admission, we should not let down our guard and should timely assess their nutritional status, so as to provide evidence-based medical proofs for more optimal treatment options for CAD patients and to better guide clinical practice.
