On April 21, our hospital held a simple and warm ceremony to welcome Professor Abdelouahab Bellou (hereinafter referred to as “Professor Bellou”), a tenured professor of University of Rennes, France and the former president of the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EUSEM) to join our hospital in a full-time manner.

Professor Bellou is the first foreign clinical academic leader to join  Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital in a full-time manner, who is an expert in emergency and critical care medicine and a tenured professor at University of Rennes, France He worked as an associate professor in emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, the quality and safety management director of the International Sodality for Emergency Medicine of Harvard Medical School in Boston, the president of the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EUSEM) and the president of the Global Emergency Medicine Network. Having been committed to advancing emergency medicine for years and working hard in the medical quality and safety of emergency medicine, cardiovascular critical care and life support, as well as pediatric emergency medicine and disaster medicine, Professor Bellou is a leader in the development of international emergency medicine.

Director Yu Xueqing expressed his warm welcome to Professor Bellou for joining our hospital. He said that introducing Professor Bellou in a full-time manner is an important symbol of the talent team of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital going global. The continuous introduction of high-level foreign talents will further bring out open, diversified and inclusive atmosphere of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, which is also an important measure to realize a stronger hospital and to promote the construction of a more powerful China through science and technology. We hope that Professor Bellou will bring global vision, international experience and advanced international concepts to our hospital, andcarry out in-depth cooperation especially in major emergency medicine projects, medical education and training platform, international multi-center cooperative research and other fields through the combination with the localized Chinese experience to further strengthen the construction of emergency and critical care disciplines and emergency medicine systems, emergency medical teaching staff and talent training, scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation. In doing so,we can further promote the construction of trauma emergency centers and emergency systems in Guangdong to benefit patients in Guangdong and even all over the country.

Professor Bellou said that he is very optimistic about China’s future development prospects. He pointed out that he has long heard that Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital is one of the top provincial people’s hospitals in China and he is very happy and honored to have this opportunity to join the hospital to devote himself to clinical medicine and scientific research, and to cooperate and communicate with excellent doctors in China. He said that he hopes to work with Chinese colleagues to bring better treatment options for Chinese patients, to build a brand new emergency medicine brand of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital with international standards and international vision, and to make every endeavor to widen the vision of  emergency medicine of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, Guangdong Province and even the whole China.

The introduction of high-level talents is one of the key tasks of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital centering on high-level hospital construction under the "Peak Plan" in recent years. According to the different levels of talents, our hospital implements different levels of talent support plans such as “five fives” and “five threes” for the talents introduced. The highest level of “five fives” support can be as high as RMB5 million scientific research funds each year for 5 consecutive years with 500 square-meter lab, 5 full-time scientific researchers, 5 postdoctoral fellows and 5 doctors. As the first full-time foreign expert enjoying our hospital’s “five fives” support, Professor Bellou will act as the academic leader of emergency medicine, playing an important role in promoting the development of the emergency and critical care medicine and the application for the construction of a national clinical medicine research center (emergency and critical care medicine (emergency)) of our hospital.
