Today, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (“NSFC”) announced the review results of projects applying for 2021 National Natural Science Fund. A total of 77 projects initiated by Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital (“GDPH”) were approved by NSFC, a year-on-year increase of 54%, including one project sponsored by the National Excellent Young Scientists Fund, the first project of its kind that has ever been undertaken by GDPH, and the total funding amount increased by 45.4% than that of the previous year, reaching 28.344 million yuan.

NSFC funding status is a key index of the scientific and technological competitiveness of a unit. Over the past three years, GDPH has strengthened the construction of a scientific research platform, talent teams and key projects, consequently achieving rapid growth in both the number of NSFC bids it wins and the amount of NSFC funding it receives, and the constant improvement of its scientific research level and capacity.

After Mr. Liu Zaiyi (Director of the Department of Radiology) was granted the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2019, Mr. Liang Huiying (Director of the Medical Big Data Research Center) was subsequently granted the National Excellent Young Scientists Fund this year (2021), both of which create new records in the history of GDPH, showing a profound reserve of outstanding talents with strong competence.

The great achievements GDPH has made in NSFC-related work for two consecutive years can be attributed to the high attention from both the Party and the government and the strong support of the construction of high-level hospitals, to the overall planning and the development strategy of “discipline, platform and team” of the hospital, and to the joint efforts of various disciplines and the perseverance and hard work of all hospital staff day and night.

In the future, we can surely do even better. Under the correct leadership of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the Guangdong provincial government, with the strong support of the Provincial Health Commission, the careful guidance of experts in various fields, and the concerted efforts of all hospital staff, GDPH will surely reach new heights in all works!
